Bryon "Lee" Schatzley born May 29, 1920, passed at the age of 98& 112. To say Lee was a difference maker for Beavercreek and our country is an understatement. Lee was born and raised in West Milton Ohio. He enlisted US Army Air Corps (before there was an Air Force); he was lead bombardier the navigator in WWII, and spent the rest of his career in recon and intelligence. He served in Korea and Vietnam and retired as Colonel in the USAF in 1972. He was awarded the distinguished service medal, 2 legions of merit, distinguished flying cross, and 8 air medals. After several years of working together on community projects he and Carol became friends. Early in 79 they were both hurting, Carol from a divorce and Lee lost his wife. They began dating and were married in 1982. Lee joined Rotary in 1975 and served as President 80-81. He joined the chamber in 1976 and served on most of the committees. Lee was a member of the "Committee of Eleven" which was formed to create the city of Beavercreek. Back then, there was a legal battle against Fairborn, Kettering, Dayton and Technology Inc. for big parts of then Beavercreek Township. Lee volunteered to help raise money to fight them, and its one of the reasons it took so long for Beavercreek to become a city. Lee enjoyed being a Kids voting site coordinator, his wetlands involvement, VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program) and the committee for the installation of I675. Lee worked the polls on Election Day for Greene County. Lee won numerous civic awards for his volunteer efforts throughout the city and county. He served on many levy committees for streets, police, fire, parks and schools. He was a charter member of the Miami Valley Military Affairs Assoc. and of the Beavercreek Wetlands Assoc. Lee has two adult children Jill Moore and Linda Jordan. Jill lives in Columbia, MD and Linda here in Beavercreek. Lee, on behalf of Rotary, The Wetlands, the City of Beavercreek, and our United States of America, . . . . . .Thank you!
